BWS stands for beer, wine and spirits, and is the largest liquor retailer in Australia. The chain is growing at the rate of six to 10 new outlets a year in addition to the current tally of around 1,300. Each BWS store is stocked with a selected inventory based on the demands in the local area they serve. BWS also owns a number of beer brands, including John Boston, Tun and Arc Valley. Convenience has been a key area of focus for the brand; one-hour click-and-collect services were launched in 2017, and home delivery services are available under the “Jimmy Brings” banner. Delivery services were promoted as a rescue mission via the tongue-in-cheek “Help. It’s What We Deliver” advertising campaign in 2018. Parent company Woolworths Group and rival supermarket Coles came under fire in early 2019 for refusing to support a trial of new alcohol sales restrictions designed to reduce violence and suicide in Broome, WA while Independent bottle shops had supported the initiative.
