Hiscox is a specialist insurer that has recently been targeting small businesses. It underwrites a diverse range of personal and commercial insurance risks, with 34 offices across 14 countries around the world. In the UK, Hiscox provides home insurance cover for over 60,000 homes. In 2019, Hiscox launched a newly enhanced version of its Security Incident Response product, offering additional protection for “business integrity risks” such as corruption and fraud. The business reported a jump in pre-tax profits from $39.7 million in 2017 to $137.4 million in 2018; this is, in part, due to record losses in 2017 for the insurance industry as a result of a series of natural disasters. In its communications this year, Hiscox has partnered with bike manufacturer Brompton to demonstrate what a cyber attack would look like in the real world. A clone Brompton Junction store is the setting for an advertisement, which records the reactions of staff and passers-by as simulated hacking events unfold.
