Virgin Media provides home broadband, fixed line, mobile and television services across the UK and Ireland. The company was formed by the merger of Virgin Mobile with technology provider NTL, and is now part of Liberty Global, the international cable company; under a licensing deal with British entrepreneur Richard Branson, while retaining the Virgin name and logo. Virgin Media recently launched a new app to help customers manage their accounts, and under its Project Lightning push to improve broadband infrastructure in the UK, is investing £3 billion in extending its cable network. The brand’s communications campaigns tend to be dotted with celebrities, perhaps the popular example being their TV ad that featured Usain Bolt and Richard Branson around the time of the 2012 London Olympics. Other celebrities to feature in Virgin Media commercials include comedian Ruby Wax, athlete Mo Farah, and actors Samuel L Jackson and David Tennant. In July 2017, Virgin Media launched its #AlltheFootball campaign, which celebrates the way Virgin Media’s unique cabling delivers the best football experience. Liberty Global is listed on the London Stock Exchange, having previously been listed on the NASDAQ.
