HSBC is one of the world’s largest financial services providers. It has opened a new UK head office in Birmingham this year, and has around 3,900 offices in 67 countries and territories worldwide, serving 38 million customers. In the UK, it provides personal banking and finance, corporate and investment banking. Recent innovations include the “Connected Money” app, allowing users to view up to 21 accounts held with HSBC and other banks in one place, and Face ID technology, available to iPhone X users. HSBC for many years called itself the “World’s local bank”, but has more recently been focusing on fuelling human ambition around the world, and the importance of seeing issues from an alternative point of view. In 2018 HSBC launched a new strapline, “Together We Thrive”, with an ad starring “global citizen” Richard Ayoade. Ahead of Brexit, the ad highlights how many countries have heavily influenced British culture. HSBC says the ad promotes the bank’s proud heritage connecting people and helping businesses and communities thrive. A late 2017 campaign aimed at young people in the UK, "#ZeroRegrets", starred grime artist Lady Leshurr in a music video encouraging people to pursue higher education and take out an HSBC Student Bank Account.
