Air France is the country’s flag carrier, serving 118 destinations in 61 countries. Air France (along with HOP!) carried 51.4 million passengers in 2018. While the brand is now part of Air France-KLM and the SkyTeam alliance of airlines, it maintains a distinctly French feel, and is proud of its heritage and of France. In December 2018, Anne Rigail was appointed as Air France’s first female CEO, replacing acting CEO Benjamin Smith. Prior to her promotion, Rigail headed up the brand’s customer experience division, and will now lead the company’s continued efforts to revitalize the brand. The brand’s concept “France is in the Air” brings French elegance to the airline. There are refined cabins on long-haul routes, along with restaurant-style French cuisine devised by Michelin-starred chefs. Air France has updated its in-flight digital services, offering Google Assistant and launching “Louis,” an in-flight chatbot. Air France has also embarked on sustainability initiatives, promising to eliminate single-use plastic (210 million items) by the end of 2019.
