Asahi brand beer was launched in 1892 and incorporated as a company in 1949, but it wasn’t until 1987 that the brand cemented its modern identity with its star product, “Asahi Super Dry.” Loved for its light, crisp taste, Super Dry was an immediate hit in Japan, and by 1998 the brand had regained its position as Japan’s number one beer brand after 45 years at number two. Today, Asahi controls 48.9 percent of the Japanese beer market, led by the iconic silver colorway of Asahi Super Dry. In addition to beer, Asahi owns a variety of alcohol, soft drink, and food brands; going forward, premiumization and diversification are both key components of the corporation’s strategic plans. The brand’s corporate philosophy is guided by a spirit of challenge and innovation, which has led to significant research and development in the realm of fermentation, brewing technology, and freshness. In recent years the brand’s brewery arm has introduced a variety of zero-alcohol, light, no-malt, and premium offerings. In Japan, communications highlight the unique features of this range, and also feature endorsement from celebrities such as Fukuyama Masaharu, Shibasaki Kou, and Masaki Suda. Asahi Group Holdings is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
