Australia Post is the country’s biggest delivery network, delivering more than 3 billion items a year, and over 1.3 million parcels each day. It is undergoing a huge transformation, from being a letter-oriented business to focusing on e-commerce (handling 82 percent of the nation’s online orders) and diversifying into other areas, such as financial services. The sudden surge in demand for parcel delivery led to a large number of complaints in 2016-17; in response, Goodman Group and Australia Post in 2018 began construction of the largest parcel facility in the southern hemisphere, at a cost of AU$200 million. The centre includes automated processing technology and improved tracking tools to help the brand cope with Australians’ love affair with online shopping. Australia Post has pledged to continue to reduce its carbon footprint, despite rising parcel volume, by 25 percent by 2020. Recent communications include the “Everyone Matters” campaign, demonstrating the benefits of Australia Post services in feel-good, everyday situations.
