The Bank of Scotland is the oldest Scottish bank and one of the most enduring in the UK. It was established to support Scottish trade with England and continental Europe, and now has more than 290 branches across the UK, including mobile branches in vans to serve more remote communities. As part of Lloyds Banking Group’s “Helping Britain Prosper” plan, the bank has launched a five-year funding programme to develop a stronger sense of community in its home country, called “Supporting Positive Change Across Scotland”. In a novel communications exercise for a banking brand, Bank of Scotland worked with Halifax on a prize draw that promised to pay off the mortgages of three lucky customers who had recently been granted mortgages. Community work by the brand includes encouraging runners of all ages and abilities to join the 2019 Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run this September. Bank of Scotland has 2.8 million personal customers and 150,000 commercial customers.
