Chanel is an iconic, historic luxury brand famous for its Chanel No. 5 signature fragrance, handbags, tweed suits, and founder Coco Chanel, the storied epitome of French chic. Its full range spans couture, high-end fashion, cosmetics, accessories, fine jewelry and fragrance. This powerful heritage brand works with celebrity ambassadors and uses modern music and social media to build appeal among younger audiences. The late Karl Lagerfeld was the house’s Creative Director from 1983 to 2019, when he died at the age of 85. Virginie Viard, who worked closely with Lagerfeld, was subsequently appointed. In Chanel’s more accessibly priced categories, the brand has invested in a wave of digital partnerships, working with China’s Tmall and launching tech-enhanced experiences such as the Atelier Beauté Chanel space in New York, and gaming makeup activations in Shanghai. It continues to invest in high-octane, big-budget theatrical fashion shows. In 2018, Chanel also formed a strategic partnership with fashion tech retailer and logistics platform Farfetch, to augment the customer experience in Chanel boutiques.
