The Co-op is a network of convenience stores and small supermarkets that prides itself on its ownership by individual members rather than large investors. It is the UK’s fifth-biggest food retailer, with close to 2,600 stores. It sets itself apart in a highly competitive market by focusing on local produce, fairness, and a mission to serve the communities in which stores operate. In 2019, Co-op has launched a pedal-powered delivery service, allowing shoppers to order online and have their shopping brought to them by bicycles with electric motors for assistance. The service launched in several London stores and a wider rollout is expected later. The Co-op has teamed up with music festival organisers and will have a convenience store at Glastonbury and five other festivals this year. It is also partnering with Superdrug to offer meal deals at Superdrug stores in airports and railway stations. Co-op’s latest advertising campaign, “Feel the Heat”, takes a humorous look at the nation’s love of curry with the story of a man meeting his girlfriend’s parents for the first time.
