E.ON is one of the world's largest electric utility service providers. The name comes from the Greek word “aeon”, meaning “era” and signals the timeless nature of the brand. E.ON operates in over 30 countries and serves over 33 million customers, focusing on energy networks, customer solutions and renewable energies. E.ON announced in 2018 it was acquiring renewable energy utility Innogy through a complex €43 billion asset swap deal between E.ON, Innogy and RWE. A recent social media campaign presented a humorous take on “ground-breaking” inventions from a fictitious E.ON Tomorrowlab in the style of a third-rate TV sales show. In its wider brand campaign, E.ON takes consumers on a journey through time, from the first electric light bulb to the present day, where some of the most innovative solutions – such as smart home products – are presented. The brand sponsors events, campaigns and projects in the fields of sport and culture throughout Germany.
