Foxtel is primarily a pay television platform, providing satellite and cable-delivered content to dedicated set-top boxes. More recently, content has also been made available to stream over PlayStation, Apple TV and other connected devices. New CEO Patrick Delany, who took up the post in early 2018, said he would work to reposition the Foxtel brand as the sector faces increased competition from streaming services. Since then, Foxtel has launched Kayo Sports, a streaming service with a packed sporting line-up that has been well received by consumers; by February 2019, Kayo Sports had recruited more than 100,000 paying subscribers. The brand has also announced a partnership with Netflix, which could see Netflix movies and series streamed on Foxtel, and the two parties will co-produce an Australian TV show. As well as being a partner of Netflix, Foxtel is seeking to compete, through a newly announced drama and entertainment streaming service. Foxtel and Mindshare have worked with Fox Sports and Google to launch “Monty”, an AI bot that predicts when wickets are likely to fall during cricket matches.
