Hypermart is a growing chain of hypermarkets with 112 stores in more than 60 cities, almost half of which are located outside the main island of Java. In the past two years, Hypermart has been rolling out its G7 format and now has 13 G7 stores, which offer a more pleasant experience for shoppers with LED lighting, improved signage and eco-friendly coolers. The brand’s loyalty card scheme, Hicard, grew 11.4 percent in 2015, to 3.9 million members, who are eligible for promotions and discounts in Hypermart and partner retailers and restaurants.
In the past year, a joint promotion with Unilever and the charity WWF for Earth Day encouraged shoppers to #BeliYangBaik (Buy Good Things), considering provenance, function, production processes and recycling. For each Unilever product bought during the campaign, a donation would be made to the NEWTrees program to plant trees around Indonesia.
As the flagship retailer of Matahari Putra Prima, it accounts for almost 78 percent of group sales. The parent company also owns the smaller, high-end Foodmart brand, Boston health and beauty stores, and in recent months has opened SmartClub, a new wholesale format. The company has been listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange since 1992.
