It began its operations in 1951, and launched its first international flight (from Tokyo to Honolulu onward to San Francisco) two years later. JAL’s slogan is, “To the sky of tomorrow, the Japanese wing.” Today, the company flies 142 domestic routes and 571 international routes, and operates in 52 countries including codeshare flights. JAL launched its loyalty program in 1993 and joined the oneworld alliance in 2007. Today, the company is known for its especially roomy cabins and comfortable seats, as well as its Japanese hospitality and red “crane circle” branding. Looking forward, the company hopes to expand its overseas sales; in 2019, the company launched a low-cost international subsidiary called Zipair. JAL is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
