Kanpo Seimei (Japan Post Insurance) is a life insurance company and subsidiary of the Japan Post Group. It was formed during the privatization of the Japan Postal Administration that began in 2007. Kanpo Seimei conducts the life insurance business inherited from Nihon Yubin – with the important change that products no longer come with a government guarantee but are instead protected by more typical policyholder protection schemes. The company serves individual customers through Japan’s post offices and corporate customers through a network of sales offices. It currently employs more than 7,000 people. In the wake of revelations about inappropriate sales practices at Kanpo Seimei, the company temporarily halted sales of most of its insurance products in July 2019. Kanpo Seimei and its parent company Japan Post Holdings Co. Ltd. are both listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
