Mini balances tradition with modernity. It was launched by the British Motor Company as a range of small, economical cars and has since grown to represent a distinct aspect of Britishness, particularly London and the swinging sixties. The Mini celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2019, and the brand is marking six decades of this iconic design with a special, limited-edition run of 500 Mini 60 Years Edition vehicles. This is also the year when Mini will launch its first full production line of pure electric vehicles, a car the company says will offer an environmentally friendly option to motorists, without compromising backseat and boot space. The cars will be produced at Mini’s Oxford plant. The British Motor Museum's National Metro & Mini Show is also marking the Mini’s 60th anniversary, and had plans to set a world record for the longest line of Minis. Minis are exported to over 110 countries; the UK is the second-largest market for Mini worldwide, after the US.
