Orange is a premium mobile phone network and broadband provider that promotes itself as providing a highly relevant product offering and unmatched customer experience. It is France’s biggest telecoms group. The company has been in growth mode in 2019 despite fierce competition from low-cost alternative providers. In July, it announced that revenue had risen 0.5 percent year on year, beating analyst predictions. Core operating profits rose 0.9 percent to 3.38 billion. The company recently launched Orange Bank, which has been very well received by consumers and is part of Orange’s diversification strategy. The bank is entirely mobile-based, and provides real-time balances, mobile payment, and access to a virtual advisor 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Orange’s diversification initiatives target five areas: finance, content, devices, smart life, and energy. It is also doubling down on 5G, launching commercial services in 2020 (although CEO Stéphane Richard ruled out the use of Huawei as vendor in France following security concerns about the Chinese company).
