Qantas is Australia’s largest and oldest airline and has an unmatched safety record. It has around 65 percent share of the domestic market and close to 15 percent of international flights into and out of the country. In 2018, Qantas launched a non-stop connection between Perth and London, which takes just over 17 hours. CEO Alan Joyce said the route’s success could lead to Perth-Paris direct flights. Other innovations include the rollout of Wi-Fi on its Boeing 737 and Airbus A330 fleet, and a trial of facial recognition technology to allow passengers to access departure lounges and board selected flights. In early 2019, Qantas and subsidiary Jetstar announced they were going all-digital for boarding passes and frequent flyer cards to reduce waste, and would also be composting or recycling coffee cups, recycling old uniforms and donating or composting unused food. Qantas is synonymous with Australia, both at home and abroad, thanks largely to its well-remembered, long-running “feels like home” campaign.
