Rémy Martin is a luxury champagne cognac that has become a byword for the category. Cognac consumption has been growing around the world, to the benefit of Rémy Martin. It is seeing strong growth in the US and also in China, where sales are recovering following a crackdown on sales of luxury spirits in an effort to tackle corruption and gifting through legislation. Total sales for the 12 months to 31 March 2019 reached €1.21 billion, with Rémy Cointreau’s own brand portfolio contributing 9.8% growth. Rémy Martin Cognac posted double-digit growth of 11.9%, with “remarkable growth” across all geographical areas. The brand says it has benefited from the “global success” of the limited edition VSOP Matt W Moore bottles, the performance of its XO, and the opening of Rémy Martin experiential houses in London, Moscow, Chengdu and Shenzhen. Like many luxury brands, Rémy Martin is dialing up its emphasis on producers: in 2018, it awarded Centaurs of the Environment trophies to 70 winemakers to reward their commitment to ecological agriculture.
