RWE is one of Europe’s leading suppliers of energy, supplying around 20 million homes with electricity, and 10 million with gas. The business sources its energy from controversial lignite power plants, as well as from gas, coal, nuclear, hydropower, biomass and renewables. It is shifting its focus towards renewables, and has announced it will invest up to €1.5 billion a year in wind power on land and at sea, as well as photovoltaics and storage facilities. In the past year, RWE has launched a new brand identity, designed to reflect its three core values: being close, transparent and friendly. The brand states its purpose as “Our energy for a sustainable life”, and has set out CO2-reduction plans with the aim of becoming CO2 neutral by 2040. RWE says it wants to provide energy that is not only clean, but also safe and affordable. The brand sponsors grassroots organizations in the markets where it operates, particularly those that help young people.
