The Schwarzkopf brand was founded by pharmacist Hans Schwarzkopf, who opened a small drugstore in 1898 in Berlin and launched his own powdered shampoo product some years later. The "Shampoo with the black head" became the first haircare brand in Germany, and is now sold around the world to consumers and haircare professionals. It still features a head in silhouette on its products, and offers a range of specialist and variant brands under the single Schwarzkopf umbrella brand. The retail part of the business, which targets consumers directly, includes hair care, styling and hair dye products with the sub-brands Poly, Taffeta, Seborin and Gliss Kur. A street styling brand, Got2B, is available in Europe. The professional side of the business, aimed at hairdressers, started with the Igora Royal brand in 1956, with other lines, such as Igora Botanic dyes and styling brand OSIS added later. More recently, the Seah hair spa line has been added to the range, along with Essensity, which focuses on the natural origins of its ingredients. The brand’s tagline is “Professional haircare for you”, and ambassadors include actors and models – Claudia Schiffer is a former face of Schwarzkopf – along with high-profile haircare professionals. Henkel Group, listed on the XXXXX TBC Stock Exchange, acquired the company in 1995 from the Schwarzkopf family and the former Hoechst Group.
