SCTV is a popular national television station best known for its soap operas and light entertainment programming. It was the second commercial TV station to launch in Indonesia, after RCTI, and in 2013, parent company Surya Citra Media merged with the owner of the Indosiar channel. SCTV’s newest soap opera, Mermaid In Love, has quickly gained a huge following and is rivalling the popularity of RCTI’s Anak Jalanan. The station aired the 28th Southeast Asian Games last year, and last year launched a new talent show called The Dance Icon, to add to its expanding talent line-up, which includes Hell’s Kitchen for aspiring cooks and La Academia Junior, for young singers. SCTV presents high-profile concerts, awards and an annual music awards ceremony. Its advertising slogan is “Satu untuk Semua” (One for All).
SCTV was founded by PT Surya Citra Televisi in Surabaya, and in 2002, PT Surya Citra Media acquired 99.99 percent of shares. PT Surya Citra Media listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange the same year.
