Ted Baker is a luxury clothing retail brand with 532 stores and concessions worldwide, 195 of which located in the UK. The brand focuses on its innovative and experiential approach to retail, and was a pioneer in advancing the retail experience, with the launch of its Grooming Rooms. Shares fell 11 percent in early 2019 when Ted Baker warned investors that profits would be around £10 million lower than expected, largely as a result of writing off the value of unsold clothes. The business has been under a cloud since its founder and chief executive, Ray Kelvin, was accused of imposing “forced hugs” on staff members. He denied the claims and took leave of absence, replaced by acting chief executive Lindsay Page. Ted Baker is now expanding into mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau with the launch via a joint venture of retail stores, concessions and online channels.
