Telkomsel is Indonesia’s leading mobile phone network provider, and one of the country’s biggest businesses by market capitalization. The brand was the official mobile partner of the Asian Games in 2018, and rolled out 1,000 extra base transceiver stations in the host cities Jakarta and Palembang, to provide optimal network coverage for visitors and athletes. Telkomsel tends to be among the most expensive in the sector, but it promotes itself as an innovative, premium service offering high quality connections and coverage. In the past year, the brand has also entered the mobile gaming space, launching ShellFire, a mobile gaming app offering multiplayer online battles. The game has already had around 3 million downloads, and features different game modes, hero characters, a map, and in-app purchases. It is available to all smartphone users in the country via Dunia Games (Games World); Telkomsel said the move into gaming was to “enliven” mobile content and drive revenue, as gamers tend to be a strong source of income for mobile networks.
