Waitrose is an upmarket supermarket chain with 349 stores across the UK. The brand positions itself as a champion of British produce and fair treatment for suppliers and customers to encourage sustainable healthy living. Waitrose aims to treble the size of its online business to £1bn annually following the end of its partnership with Ocado, by teaming up a new partner, Today Development Partners, a tech business set up by former Ocado and Google X executives. It is trialling a combined loyalty scheme with John Lewis as the business seeks to better link the two brands. The brands launched their first joint Christmas advertisement in 2018 as part of the wider “Too Good To Wait” Waitrose campaign. In the past year, Waitrose has launched over 5,000 new own-brand products, including an exclusive range of vegetarian and vegan products. An environmental push has led to 52 million fewer disposable cups being used in its stores, and Waitrose has pledged to ban glitter from all own-brand stationery, flowers and other products by 2020.
